They couldn't win from light armored Peshmerga, while their army had fighter jets, tanks, rockets, etc.
A few facts:
----
The Iraqi Army was almost wiped out during the 60's revolution.
More than 100,000 Iraqi soldiers were killed, against 'only' 20,000 Peshmerga.
The Iraqi army could only fight for 15 more days!
But then they agreed on a ceasefire.
A new revolution started 4 years later and lasted for 1 to 2 years. Again, under the leadership of the great General Barzani.
The Iraqi army lost more than 20,000 troops during this battle. But then the bastard Saddam called in help from Syria and asked Iran to stop supporting the Peshmerga. Iran, in return, demanded Shatt Al-Arab in return for stop supporting the Peshmerga. Saddam agreed on this, but after the Hate-Beards / Islamist gained control over Iran, Saddam demanded Shatt Al-Arab back, but Iran did not agree on this.
This was the main reason for the Iran-Iraq war. More than 2,000,000 (2 million) people died during this war, by far more Arabs and Persians than Kurds.
But wait: when the Iran-Iraq war ended, Saddam was desperate. He needed money because his army was fucked and Iraq was in financial trouble.
This is why he attacked Kuwait. He wanted to steal their oil to boost the Iraqi economy. But the UN didn't took this shit and they attacked Iraq.
But wait, there is even more!:
- The Shia's started with the revolution in the 1990's, so Saddam sended all his heavy armor and special troops to the South of Iraq to defeat the rebelling Shia's.
- When the Shia's were defeated, we (the Kurds) started with our revolution (Raparin) in the north (South-Kurdistan). So Saddam had to send all his heavy armor back to the north. But because most heavy armor was re-located, entire South-Kurdistan was liberated within a few days! More than 10,000 Iraqi soldiers were killed in order to liberate Kirkuk, Slemani, Hewler, Duhok, etc.
- But than the heavy armor from the South arrived in the north and Saddam started with taking the cities back. The Kurds left the cities and the UN decided on putting a no-fly zone in the North and the South. Saddam was ordered to get the fuck out of Kurdistan.
But the heavy armor stayed in the north because the most important cities are also in the North (like Baghdad, Mosul, Kirkuk, etc.).
And than in 2003 the Americans attacked Iraq and Peshmerga joined them.
Since most heavy armor was still located in the North, the Peshmerga took their chance and took everything. Thousands of tanks, armored vehicles, artillery pieces, anti-aircraft, millions of weapons, ammunition, etc.
This is how we took almost all Iraqi army's weaponry, were Saddam spend hundreds of billions on!
SO to summarize:
- Peshmerga fucked the Iraqi Army in the 1960's, killed more than 100,000.
- Another 20,000 Arabs were killed in the 1974-1975 revolution.
- Saddam was desperate, called in help from Syria and Iran to defeat the revolution.
- Iran-Iraq war started because Saddam did not kept his promise. This war, basically, started over issues that occurred out of the Kurdish revolution. 2 million people died in this war.
- The First Gulf War also started out of problems with the Kurds. If there weren't problems with the Kurds, the Iran-Iraq war would not have been started in the first place and Iraq would not have been in financial trouble.
- The no-fly zone and defacto Kurdish state were created after the first gulf-war.
- The Peshmerga took almost all of Iraq's heavy armor because everything was re-located in the north.
So:
Millions of people have died and many wars have started because of our powerful revolution and our stupid, weak, ignorant enemies who massacred each other without knowing that we would eventually win.
