Yawar: "there is no such thing as a Dijla unit in Kirkuk"

Basically he says there might be a unit formed under Dijla but he says they have not entered Kirkuk and their role will be limited to Hawija only, as the rest of Kirkuk province is taken cared of by Peshmerga and police under the direct command of Kirkuk governor.

He says if they try to enter Kirkuk we will not allow them, so there is no joint agreement between Erbil and Baghdad to allow these units to enter Kirkuk, but in Hawija that is totally under Baghdad control and they are allowed to form what ever units they wish there.

Kurdistan, 3rd Sept (wpeshmerga) - On Tuesday 28.8.2012 the second chapter of education and national awareness course for more than 400 officers and military echelons in the Ministry of Peshmerga, to educate them and make them aware of the various sciences began.

Mr. Halgurd Mala Ali General director of Media, Culture and national awareness in the Ministry the Peshmerga Announced: The purpose of opening education and national awareness courses for officers and Cadres of the ministry of peshmarga is clear planning of ministry work, and the implementation of the plans away from any partisan ideology.

Last year the ministry opened another chapter for a number of officers from brigades and officesr from divan of ministry of peshmarga, Mr. Halgurd said.

He also pointed out that the topics which taught in these courses are academic subjects and also taught in universities of Kurdistan region which we can learn from.

Also Colonel Shwan Mahmoud Director of national awareness and chief of cultural course announced: this chapter is the second of its kind of education sessions after the first one which held for about 430 officers of divan of ministry from major general rank to major rank, this time officers and Military echelons from directorates of divan of ministry and then in coming days all officers from brigades and regiments will participate.
He also pointed to invitation a number of professors, specialists in the field of national security and international human rights and laws to sensitize and educate officers in the field of human rights.

He added: we are seeking to increase opening such a educational classes to four sessions per year and the participation of the largest number of officers of the Ministry of Peshmerga to educate and sensitize officers, also pointed to the effective role of the Directorate of awareness in carrying out its tasks well.

Kurdistan, 3rd Sept (wpeshmerga) - On Monday 13.08.2012 Minister of Peshmerga Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa received Gen. Kaslen director of Joint Security Bureau in Iraq, Paul Stephen U.S. Consul in Erbil and the delegation accompanying him.

In the meeting the political and military changes, issues and the crises that took place recently between Iraqi army and Kurdistan Peshmerga forces in Zumar area discussed.

Minister of peshmarga confirmed that the central Iraqi government seeking to overturn the agreement signed between the parties on the issue of the disputed areas. As the peshmerga forces would not allow such illegal developments, and called for prior notification for any movements of Iraqi army and coordination between the two parties as stated in the agreements.

For his part, Gen. Kaslen said: issues must be resolved peacefully through dialogue on the basis of the agreement and the parties are obligated to implement, also called on the parties work together to success of the democratic process between Iraq and Kurdistan.

As for actual hardware, the KRG has bought over 20 Apache helicopters from the US while Baghdad has plans to purchase F16 fighter planes from the US, due to be delivered there in 2014.

Massod Barzani, Kurdistan president paid a quick visit to Zumar, an area of a stand-off between Kurdistan army and iraqi army last month.

He thanked the tireless efforts by the Peshmerga forces defending their lands.

There are currently 3 battalions of Peshmerga in Zumar, which are the 8th, 4ths and the 5th battalions.
