Read the interview with the PYD leader today(pg 39). Read this paragraph:

The term West Kurdistan is a geographical term which is not intended to any political connotations, it does not mean certain limits, does not mean separation or split, as we say the West Bank or East Bank, or East and West as well as such. And our definition of Western Kurdistan is the part that remained within the political boundaries of the State of Syria at the division of the region in the early twentieth century.
It does not mean anything other than the reminder that there is a part of Kurdistan under Syrian sovereignty, territory and not future of Kurdish autonomy, and you can be considered as a cultural meaning.
