Re: Towards re-establishing Caucasusi Kurdistan

PostAuthor: unitedkurdistan » Mon Dec 26, 2011 12:10 pm

I don't really think we can claim Red Kurdistan aswell. THe russian made up redkurdistan, they abused it for wars against turkey and iran, that's the entire purpose with redkurdistan. Secondly, we were about 50 000 kurds, and they all emigrated to the place. Most of them were either killed, moved to kazakhistan were many of them are assimilated. but the kurdish football player Jiloan Hamad which is playing for U21 national team in sweden is a kurd from Azerbaijan. So are we gonna create an autonomy for about 3-4000? Even less than that.

Radikal : Turkey might support a kurdish state

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Sat Dec 31, 2011 2:48 am

Turksih newspaper (Radikal) published in its news that at the moment iraq as fallen under total control of Iran. it says that iran is supporting a Shia controlled based country , and Turkey has realized iraq might be divided into 3 separate countries so turkey has started intensifying its efforts to support a Sunni and Kurdish state in return.

Turkey wants to repeat the scenario of 1920 which is to include Kirkuk and Mosul in a kurdish state so that- it can also benefit from it.

Turkey worried that Iraqi Kurdistan could become a state

Turkey is urging the United States to ensure that Iraq does not break up into ethnic enclaves, one of which would be Kurdish.

In the face of escalating sectarian tension inside Iraq, Ankara has recently issued multiple messages to Baghdad and Washington, sounding the alarm about what might occur in Iraq in the post-US period, the Turkish daily Sabah reported. The daily claimed that Ankara got in touch with US officials, warning them against “spoiling” Maliki, who took charge of the Iraqi government after years of trying to reconcile the Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish blocs in the country.

Turkey also warned the US of “the increasing possibility of Iraq being partitioned,” which would seriously jeopardize security in the region, Sabah noted.

In the wake of a Shiite bloc move against senior Sunni officials in what appears to be an attempt to strip them of their power to increase Shiite dominance in the coalition government, Ankara reportedly contacted Maliki to urge him to keep the promises he made when he rose to power and protect the multicultural structure of Iraq. Turkish officials further called on Maliki “not to meddle in Syrian politics,” on the grounds that the sectarian situation in Iraq is not connected to the situation in Syria, which is experiencing a bloody uprising to force a change of power in that country.

...

Warning that Turkey’s door in the south might close if Iraq -- already a dangerous area -- becomes more hazardous after a possible partition, expert and academic Mensur Akgün voiced concern that Turkey’s ties with the semiautonomous Kurdish administration in the north will need fine tuning, the daily Taraf reported in an interview on Monday.

“If Iraq falls apart for a reason that lies outside the Kurdish bloc, Turkey will have to recognize a Kurdish state in Iraq’s north,” Akgün was quoted by Taraf as saying, as he justified the logic of such a move on Turkey’s increased need for stronger connections with the Kurdish administration when Sunnis and Shiites wage a sectarian war in the rest of the country. Predicting that the Kurdish administration would stay out of the sectarian strife to maintain stability,www.ekurd.net Akgün suggested that an unlikely alliance has arisen between the Kurdish administration and Turkey, “sides the West did not believe would concur.”

Kurds to stay clear of Iraq sectarian strife

By Jon Hemming

ARBIL, Iraq, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Iraq's Kurds are determined not to get dragged into a sectarian conflict over Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's attempted arrest of the Sunni vice-president, and the Kurds' leader said failure to implement a federal system would lead to disaster.

Nine years after the U.S.-led invasion, much of Iraq is still plagued by Sunni insurgents and Shi'ite militias, but Iraqi Kurdistan has enjoyed relative peace and prosperity after successfully rising up against Saddam Hussein in 1991 and achieving federal autonomy under Iraq's 2005 constitution.

Unless their interests are directly affected, the Kurds have tried to remain largely aloof from the interminable political wrangling that has beset the central government in Baghdad, attempting to act as a mediator to resolve potential conflicts.

But Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi's flight to Kurdistan last month after an attempt to arrest him on accusations of running death squads has thrust the Kurds centre stage in a political drama that could descend into sectarian violence.

"I don't want to be dragged into this," Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdish region, told Reuters in an interview on Wednesday.

"We are not part of the sectarian struggle that is there. Of course we are part of the political disagreement and political struggle, but not of the sectarian one."

The Kurds have called for a national conference to settle the differences between Maliki and the cross-sectarian Iraqiya bloc which is boycotting parliament and cabinet meetings, accusing Maliki's Shi'ite-led government of concentrating power.

"We are all waiting for the concerned groups to reach an agreement on when and where to meet," Barzani said.

Barzani said he was ready to host the conference, but political sources said Maliki was against meeting in the Kurdish capital Arbil and wanted the issue of Hashemi cleared up first.

"If they decide to have it somewhere else, then it is up to them, but as far as we are concerned, the venue is not a problem," said Barzani, wearing traditional Kurdish costume of khaki baggy trousers, waistcoast and cummerbund.

"I believe many of the concerned groups are not ready to go to Baghdad," he said.

As for the fate of Hashemi, "this something that the judicial system and the courts have to decide," Barzani said. "We will not interfere in whatever proceedings the judicial system decides."

Hashemi says he is willing to be tried inside the Kurdish zone, and insists a fair trial is not possible in Baghdad.

OIL DEAL, FEDERAL SYSTEM

The crisis put the Kurds in a precarious, but potentially powerful position as brokers if any political deal can be reached, and, if not, both Maliki and the Iraqiya bloc would need Kurdish backing in parliament to overcome the other side.

The Kurds may use this as leverage to win concessions on their own strategic interests, such as control of oil resources and territories disputed between Baghdad and Iraqi Kurdistan.

While relatively secure in the mountains of northern Iraq, the Kurds are upset by the Baghdad's failure to resolve the status of Kirkuk, the city at the centre of large oil reserves, which the Kurdish government claims as part of Kurdistan.

A referendum set in Article 140 of the constitution for 2007 has still not been held.

"We as Kurds we have opted for a voluntary union between Arabs and Kurds and for the system of governance in Iraq to be federal. This is a constitutional right therefore for us and for the people of Iraq, we support a federal system in this country," said Barzani who led Kurdish peshmerga forces fighting Saddam from 1979 after the death of his father who fought Baghdad-rule from the 1940s onwards.

"Preventing the implementation of constitutional articles, this will lead the country to face huge problems," he said. "This will bring about disasters."

With political wrangling in Baghdad also holding up a long-awaited law on the future exploitation of oil riches, the Kurdistan government has gone ahead and signed a series of its own oil deals, most notably with Exxon Mobil, much to the annoyance of others in the central government.

Barzani said there was an agreement with Baghdad that each side could continue signing such contracts until the oil law was passed. The Exxon deal also encompasses areas whose control is disputed by Arbil and Baghdad.

"As for places that are called disputed territories by others, for us they are part of the Kurdistan region," said Barzani. "If they have got any disagreement with this then let them come and implement Article 140 as it says in the constitution." (Editing by Louise Ireland)

[President Barzani:If people of Kurdistan call for independence, I can't stand against their will]

Erbil, January 07 (PNA) - The President of Kurdistan region Masoud Barzani said in an interview with the department Persian BBC that the Iraqi government must find a solution to political problems facing Iraq now and in the event of continued these problems, the Kurds will assess all the possibilities, stressing that the solution to the current crisis in Iraq, dialogue and the agreement of political parties, or early elections.

In response to a question on the issue of Tariq al-Hashimi, Vice President of the Republic of Iraq, said President Barzani: "This is the case before it two ways, first is that the work of the judiciary to resolve the issue, and the way the second is for the political leaders in Iraq by holding a national conference and through dialogue to find a solution to that the case. "

And on the trial of al-Hashemi in the Kurdistan Region, the President of the province, said: "If the judge has issued his decision, and was this resolution the approval of political leaders, will work with them with all our energies. But unfortunately there is a lack of confidence between the political blocs, the impact on the Judicial Council, which made the political parties in Iraq does not trust the Judicial Council. "

With regard to the presence of Tariq al-Hashemi in the Kurdistan Region, President Barzani: "I did not ask the judiciary to hand over al-Hashemi, it has been announced in a letter that it prevents travel out of the country."

In response to a question about whether the request for the judiciary to hand over al-Hashemi, said President Barzani: "We must point out here that the Judicial Council in the Kurdistan Region separately and is not linked to the Council of the judiciary in Baghdad. This issue is a political issue, and Hashemi is the vice president and political leader is a cross-section of people . this issue needs a political solution. and if people wanted to sabotage the political system in Iraq, it will be for the Kurdistan Regional Government to take its own position. "

On the phone call he received from Joe Biden, U.S. Vice President, the head of the province: "I haven't asked by Joe Biden to deliver Hashimi, but he called on to solve this issue through dialogue."

On the agreement of Erbil, the head of the Kurdistan Region: To "The Agreement was based on a partnership basis in the political process, but unfortunately did not last this process, has not been the distribution of positions in an equitable manner. Makes no sense to remain security positions vacant a year later, the army is suffering from serious problems, and that the system of military and security apparatus are contrary to law, they must be under the supervision of the House of Representatives. "

And on the crisis in Iraq at the moment, President Barzani said: "We have two ways, either we have to solve problems through dialogue and political agreement of the parties, or early elections."

The President of the province on the legality of the oil contracts concluded by the provincial government with Exxon Mobil, was concluded on the basis of the agreement with the Iraqi government and under the law, and described the position of the central government about our contracts with Exxon Mobil Balkhatie, take it that position opposed to the interests of Kurdistan, and we will not accept the status of any obstacles in the way of this decade, we will not stop the claim article 140 has not been implemented to resolve the issue of Kirkuk, warning that if the problems persist in this way, then we will go back to the Parliament of Kurdistan, and whatever the opinion of the people of Kurdistan, we will implement it. "

The President Barzani said: "If the opinion of the people of Kurdistan even claim for independence, I can not stand that then deduced from it."
President Barzani noted in this regard: "We have committed to stay within the Parliament of Kurdistan Iraq when the Baghdad government is committed to the Constitution and federalism, democracy and pluralism."

President Barzani stressed: "The Kurds will not participate in any government are marginalized, whether Sunni or the Shia, but if it did not work Maliki's coalition to solve problems, then we will consider all the possibilities."
And about his vision for the future of the region, President Barzani said: "I want the Kurdistan Region to evolve day by day. But really what I wish is to see an independent Kurdistan."

KBC lambsts agitators Turkish media

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Wed Feb 01, 2012 1:07 pm

Image

DUHOK, Feb. 1 (AKnews) - Iraq is in the grip of a political storm and a prominent Kurdish politician has accused Turkish media of stirring things up even more.

mahmud osmanThe sky above Baghdad crackles with tension as the political crisis that engulfed the country late December continues unabated. Politics in Baghdad is stymied by the rift between Iraqiya and State of Law Coalition.

Erbil is on the road to a transition of power, the prime minister's office is shifting from PUK man Barnham Saleh to KDP man Nechirvan Barzani - nephew of Kurdistan President Masoud Barzani. There is little trust between the political factions and the strain is making this more evident by the day.

Mahmoud Othman, a leading member of the Kurdish Blocs Coalition, believes Turkish media is taking advantage of this to stir up trouble between the Kurdish leadership and between the Kuristan Regional Government in Erbil and Iraqi federal government in Baghdad.

Othman is part of the KBC, a caucus of Kurdish parties in Baghdad. He believes Turkish TV is maliciously brodacasting allegations of a gulf between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the two constiuent parts of the coalition running the KRG.

Furthermore Othman accuses broadcasters north of the border of reporting on deteriorating relations between the governments of Baghdad and Erbil.

On Monday the Turkish newspaper Ledenlk reported: "The President of Kurdistan region Masoud Barzani decided to announce the establishment of an independent Kurdish state."

The newspaper claimed to have information indicating the rebel group Kurdistan Workers Party, known as the PKK, supports Barzani completely. But Ledenlk said leader of the PUK and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani "objected to the announcement in the current climate".

"I think talking about the declaration of independence at present is only intended to create problems for us," Othman said, scorning what he sees as Turkish agitators.

"Half of what the Turkish press publishes about the Kurds is false," added Othman. "It is within our rights to announce the formation of a Kurdish state tomorrow."

"Talabani and Barzani's positions about the right of the Kurds to declare independence are 100% identical. All Kurds are as one about this ambition. The problem is whether it can be achieved or can not. [Talabani and Barzani's] differences may be about the timing of announcement, but not about the substance."

The ambition of an independent Kurdistan is a dream stretching back over many decades. Kurds have had glimpsed such a utopia like in the 1920s when Kurdish nationalist declared a Kurdish state. They were brutally suppressed by the British army.

Othman asks: "But where is this state and who will support us making a declaration? The legitimate right to declare it is one thing, whether or not it will become a reality is something else."

He continues: "The declaration of the Kurdish state is not in our hands, and if we announced it who will recognize it? The first country that will stand against us is America."

Othman cited the disputed territories and the failure to implement article 140 as examples where despite semi-autonomy, Kurdistan still is not master of its own fate. "How can we declare the Kurdish State?" he demands. "We have our Region and we still suffer from problems."

Don't know whether to believe Turkish sources.

As has been stressed numerous times on these boards, it would be very unwise to declare independence right now, especially since Article 140 hasn't even been carried out yet.

waiting for the central government to implement article 140 is useless cause they dont take the constitution seriously. We already control the Kurdish areas and no one can take it away from us to annex these Kurdish populated areas. Independent on Newroz would be a great thing.

though I also dont trust Turkish news that much. And after so many false announcements I will first believe when I see it.
