The Kirkuk administration has decided to build a store to freeze the fresh vegetables and fruits of the farmers to allow them to be used throughout the year.
In a meeting on August 6 between Kirkuk Governor Nejmadin Karim and the office directors of Kirkuk, the production of vegetables and fruits was urged. For the same purpose, it was decided that a store should be built which could and would freeze the surplus produce of the farmers for later use.
Mehdi Mubarak, director of the Kirkuk Agriculture Directorate said, “We discussed a decision by the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture to allocate 1.1 million dinars to make a “freezing store.” He added, “The store will be built on four acres of land in Taza town. The store will be used to preserve fruits and other produce of the farmers in Kirkuk. We’ll send the preserved goods to bazaars any time during the year.”
The Kirkuk administration also decided to offer agriculture loans to the farmers. The amount is 10 billion IDs.
The first products to be preserved in the store will be fruits and vegetables including tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers.
