They can threaten all day long. They arent strong enough to enter. If they really decide to try to use force against us than we shall see what remains from the Free Syrian Army.

Their goal is to make Kurdistan a war front and commit atrocities and blame it on Asad regime .

Well its their own choice they can stay our ally by staying out of Kurdistan or they can try to bring chaos to Kurdistan and they will wish they never did. Why are they even trying to make Kurdistan a war front when it is already freed from Assads Army? They should stay where they are and fight the Assads regime.

I agree. After considering it for some time, I think what is more important than anything else is that Kurds do not wave the FSA flag. That is all that really matters. Make no mistake, the FSA are just as greedy as Assad, Saddam, or Maliki. If they could have their way (and knew the US wasn't watching them), they'd probably be killing Kurds as we speak.

Though I am generally a supporter of Barzani--mainly because he is a pragmatist rather than an ideologue, and we need more leaders like that--from a neutral standpoint, one does have to admit that the PYD controlling towns and villages may, in the long term, strengthen their ability to confront the Turkish state. So while what they are doing may not be the best for Barzani/SK, I don't think it will have any negative impact on West Kurdistan, and I believe it could have a positive effect on Northern Kurdistan.

It is a very difficult situation. Let us remain united and complete the task at hand--that is, the total liberation of WK.

You should have asked, what did the Arab Syrians do to deserve Syria =)) ? If it weren't for the Western countries, they would be speaking Turkish right now.

In March 2011 in London - i was on a demonstration with Rojava Kurds - thats time it seemed like no too much hope for us, but we still chant: "Biji biji Kurdistan, ba bruxe Ba'athakan" and "Assad you are next". Seems like its is going on right now :ymapplause:

Girke Lege Becomes 6th Kurdish City Liberated in WK

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Tue Jul 24, 2012 11:43 am

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region -- Syrian forces have peacefully withdrawn from the Kurdish town of Girke Lege in Hasakah province, leaving all their buildings empty and under the control of Kurdish forces.

Ismail Sharaf, central committee member of the Democratic Party of Kurdistan-Syria, told Rudaw that the Kurdish People’s Protection Units are now in control of Girke Lege after the Syrian army and police left the area.

“Girke Lege is peaceful and secure. The situation is stable and the Kurdish political parties are based at their newly established centres trying to help the local people with whatever they need,” Sharaf said.

Last week, as the revolution intensified and moved into the capital Damascus, several Kurdish cities were liberated without major clashes, including Kobane, Amude and Efrin. Girke Lege is the sixth Kurdish town to break away from Assad’s regime.

“What is happening in Kurdistan cannot be compared to what is happening right now in the middle and south of Syria. I think this is because the Kurdish nation in Syria is carrying out a civil struggle. We are doing our best to not use any weapons, and so are peacefully liberating our towns and cities,” Sharaf said.

Girke Lege is a small town with a population of 16,000. It is an important place geographically and strategically as it is situated between the Turkish border and the town of Derek in the Rumelan region. The town name was Arabized to “Ma’abad,” but the majority of the population is Kurdish.

Sharaf said regime forces have retreated to parts of the Rumelan region where Syria’s major oil refineries are situated.

All government institutions and local public departments are now in the hands of the People’s Protection Committees belonging to the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the most influential Kurdish political party in Syria.

Sharaf told Rudaw that the PYD and the Kurdish National Council (KNC) are currently in talks over how to run the public departments so that services do not stop and everything returns to normal in the town.

On June 11, Syrian Kurdish factions signed the Erbil Agreement which designates joint leadership between the KNC and PYD’s Council of Syrian Kurdistan over freed cities.

The KNC and PYD have two different versions of the Kurdish flag, which may lead to conflict in the coming days.

The KNC is a non-military organization and, because most of the areas are controlled by the PYD, they have their own version of the flag on the liberated buildings they are now controlling, according to Sharaf.

He added, “In order to avoid conflict, we have lowered our version of the Kurdish flag in many places where we are in control.”

Syrian Kurdistan: Grounds for a New National Experiment

PostAuthor: brendar » Tue Jul 24, 2012 12:07 pm

Image

It is no secret that the two major parties in Syrian Kurdistan --The People’s Council and the Kurdish National Council (KNC) -- are directly tied to other parties. The former is linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the latter to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

The recent unity among Syrian Kurds and formation of the High Commission of the Kurds in Syria shows a rise in national sentiments. The unity is also a product of understandings between Qandil and Erbil.

These developments indicate that the post-revolution experiments of the Syrian Kurds will be different from those of the Iranian Kurds after 1979 and Iraqi Kurds of 1991.

For the first time, two major Kurdish political parties -- which are, in fact, the strongest -- from two different regions have come together to direct developments in another part of Kurdistan.

In the post-1979 revolution era in Iranian Kurdistan and post-1991 era in Iraqi Kurdistan, involvement of parties from other parts of Kurdistan did not prove to be very positive or constructive.

It was not positive because their involvement invited reactions. The involvement of external actors was forced by the regional political situation. And it was not constructive because it led to deepening conflict between different parts of Kurdistan. (The experiment of the “support forces” in Iranian Kurdistan might be the only case where the above-mentioned paradigm does not apply).

The experiment in Syrian Kurdistan is a completely new one. What we have seen is not only a struggle of Syrian Kurds for power or freedom. This is to say that, after the Erbil Accord and formation of the High Commission of the Kurds in Syria, the Syrian Kurds are not simply representing themselves. Now, the PKK and KDP have logistically, politically and morally committed themselves to an intelligently designed power project for the Kurds in Syria.

This effective, but unpublicized, participation of these parties in the struggle of the Syrian Kurds has given a different patriotic dimension to the political process.

Active participation of the parties has made the political development project of the Syrian Kurds a historical experiment for the Kurdish nation. In Syria, Kurds can determine their nationhood.

In two years, a century will have passed since the First World War. A hundred years of bloodshed was needed for the Kurds to catch up with the other Mesopotamian nations. Untalented Kurdish leadership and underdevelopment of the Kurdish nation back then were the two major factors that subjected Kurdistan to blood and tears for a century.

Could the scenario in Syrian Kurdistan become a new era in the history of the Kurds? Could these two parties directing the Syrian Kurds in their struggle for freedom work together shoulder to shoulder and provide a positive and constructive national project?

The undisputable truth is that Syria is an experiment where it will be discovered how much the Kurds, after a century of bloody struggle for survival, have developed as a nation.
