you dont get it. Its not about if PYD can handle them or need help. Its about FSA targeting the civilians and they should have something to protect themselves. Please think a bit more before response. Of course I would also love to see Kurdish Peshmergas in the area.

PYD CAN handle them. They killed 19 scums the other day. Though, these were not necessarily from FSA, but rather terrorist gangs armed by Turkey. But the scums go in and capture civilians. Nothing can prevent them from capturing civilians. There are simply too many. They have not got hold of one PYD fighter yet. They are incompetent scums.

The only way to prevent civilian casualties is a diplomatic solution.

This is the reason why I say put a AK in every civilians hand.

Turks love to portrait themselves as great fighters but all their fights they use dumb people of other nations for. They are too scared to fight themselves. They would not even dare a direct conflict with a military weaker state like Syria without support of NATO or without creating chaos before in that country before (by using militants like the FSA). Now after Syria is torn apart in a conflict they are brave enough to confront them and want to move into Syria and fight the already weak Syrian Army and show of themselves again as "mighty Heros".

Janissary system at its finest.

Syrian Rebels Release 120 Kurds Captured During Clashes in A

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Mon Nov 05, 2012 12:47 am

The Free Syrian Army (FSA) has released a number of Kurdish fighters captured during clashes in Aleppo last week.

The majority of the fighters were members of the Democratic Union Party’s armed wind known as (YPG).

It was reported that the Kurds detained by the FSA exceeded 200. However, 120 of them were released on Monday.

About 30 Kurds were killed in clashes with FSA rebels in the Kurdish neighbourhood of Alashrafiye in Aleppo. 17 FSA fighters were reportedly killed in the confrontations.

An FSA leader told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that the clashes occurred due to a “misunderstanding between the two sides.” But Kurdish activists considered the recent clashes in Alashrafiye and in the suburbs of the Kurdish town of Efrin as the result of FSA’s violation of an agreement signed between both sides.

These confrontations have worried Kurds in Syria who have so far escaped much of the violence caused by the anti-Assad revolution.

A member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) told Asharq al-Awsat on Tuesday that there was an agreement between his party and the FSA leadership to not enter the Kurdish areas under any circumstances, “because that will definitely give the regime’s forces the right to pursue them and will lead to massacres in these areas.”

“Our main goal is to protect our areas and our people against any potential danger, and, as known by now to all the Syrians, the presence of the FSA fighters in any region causes damage to the entire neighbourhood and results in large numbers of victims from the attacks of the forces of the dictatorial regime of Assad,” the leader said.

The PYD leader said that the regime forced started shelling the Kurdish neighborhood of Aleppo as soon as the FSA fighters had entered the area.

“As the FSA rebels entered Alashrafiye neighborhood in Aleppo, the pro-Assad air force started to shell the area; the fact which led the Kurdish residents to take to the street and protest peacefully against the FSA presence there. But the rebels responded to the protest by shooting the civilians and killing 10 of them and wounding dozens.”

Sherzad Yezidi, member of the PYD, told Asharq al-Alawsat that a group of FSA’s fighters have already taken more than 300 Kurds hostage.

“They tried to use the Kurdish hostages to put pressures on the Kurds in Syria, the same plan as that of the regime, to drag the Kurdish people to get involved in the ongoing conflict,” Yezidi said. “Since the start of the revolution, we declared that we are a partner in accomplishing the demanded change in Syria, but we have also clarified that we will never participate in the armed conflict against the regime, and that we will preserve our peaceful movement to not give any reason to the Assad forces to launch a crackdown against our areas.”

Yezidi maintained that the FSA didn’t have any reasons to enter the Kurdish areas and clash with its residents.

“This attack by the FSA forces against our areas could be a clear message to the Kurds, and a sample for the dark future awaiting the Kurdish people in Syria,” he concluded.

On the other hand, following the release of 120 Kurdish hostages the FSA issued a statement, claiming that the clashes took place due to a misunderstanding between their forces in Aleppo and the Kurdish factions. The FSA statement blamed the incident on the Syrian regime.

“Kurds are our brothers and partners in the country, and we should prevent such confrontations from occurring, because that is in favor of the regime; our mutual enemy,” the statement read.

It is good that the Syrian Freedom Fighters are co-operating with western Kurdistan forces

I know that of all the Kurds, the Kurds in Syria are the MOST hated by the rest of the population and the least likely to intermarry.

I also know that Syria placed some villages and settlements of Syrians along the border between Syria and Turkey in order to keep the Kurdish populations separated. I wonder if you have any news of what exactly is happening along the border :-?

PYD and FSA sign an agreement and the PYD leader was released. I think this has something to do with Barzanis visit to UAE.

alan, your thoughts are not right this time! FSA had to sign the agreement for many reasons. the mains are:

-the message from US to include PYD as the main kurdish opposition party in the opposition..this is what is going on now in Doha.
- the message from PKK that they will enter the game if Turkey starts playing by fire! the group which has started attacking kurds are related to Turkey mainly and not under control of FSA.
- it was good message from KRG for kurds to not start fights between themselvs...
- Barzani visit to UAE is for #1 is for economic..#2 to meet with Cameron and talk about future kurdish states and whats going on in Iraq.

Yes I heard somethink about that the USA want to build a new syrian opposition front, because they fear the influence from radical Salafi groups (Al Qaida) in the Syrian national Concile, because of what happened in Libya and other arab sates after the revolution. And now they want to prevent that in syria, with cutting the power of such radical terrorist groups (SNC/FSA).

If they really want to make the PYD and the KNC to a part of the new Syrian opposition front, that will be good, because to convince the Kurdish parties, they must make a agreement about autonomy for west Kurdistan, the next step for a independent Kurdistan.

I think the occupiers already regret that they dont accept a Free Kurdistan in the past, because they thought that it will be easy to destroy the Kurds, but now they see that the occupation policy makes them only problems, because Kurds never give up.

The title says it all.............I love the title. :ymhug:
At home away from home, Syrian Kurd refugees long for statehood

(Reuters) - Keyrings and umbrellas in the colors of the Kurdish flag are on sale at a refugee camp in Iraqi Kurdistan, where thousands of Syrian Kurds who have fled war at home are enjoying the freedom to flaunt their ethnic identity like never before.

Long-oppressed, Syria's Kurds see the conflict ravaging their country as an opportunity to win the kind of liberty enjoyed by their ethnic kin in neighboring Iraq, who live autonomously from the federal capital in Baghdad.

The war between forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and rebel fighters has so far driven some 30,000 Syrian Kurds over the border to Camp Domiz, where breeze-blocks are gradually replacing canvas as residents hunker down for winter and beyond.

A further 200-300 people are arriving each day, according to international disaster relief charity ShelterBox, which is helping put up tents.

Despite being displaced, many of the camp's occupants draw comfort from being in a country where they can at least speak their own language and fly the Kurdish flag without fear of reprisal.

"Even if we didn't have bread and water we'd be at ease here because we're at home with our leader Massoud Barzani. Dirt turns to gold in his hands," said Naja Hussein Omar, praising the leader of Iraqi Kurdistan, whose image hangs on walls around the camp.

"We want an independent state like any other. Where is our state?"

Divided between Syria, Iraq, Turkey and Iran, the Kurdish people number more than 20 million and are often described as the world's largest ethnic group without a state.

In Syria they make up about 10 percent of the population - the country's largest ethnic minority.

"WESTERN KURDISTAN"

At the camp, posters advertise a concert to raise money for the people of "Western Kurdistan" - the name Kurds use to refer to the area of Syria they claim as their own.

"God willing we will get another Kurdistan in Syria, and God willing in Turkey as well," said Ibrahim Abdulaziz Ali, who fled his hometown of Hassakeh several months ago after being drafted into the army.

Not everyone is so sure.

Umran Mohammed said all he and other Kurds of his generation sought was equal rights within a united Syria.

"Our country is Syria. We don't want another Kurdistan," he said, sitting at a table in the cafe he runs out of a blue shelter made from tarpaulin. "The president can be Kurdish or Alawite or Arab or whatever, as long as it's through elections".

If Syria's Assad falls, the Kurdish quest for self-rule is unlikely to be smooth.

Already, tensions between two main Syrian Kurdish groups, the Kurdish National Council (KNC) and the Democratic Union Party (PYD), have at times threatened to degenerate into intra-Kurdish conflict.

Earlier this year, Barzani brought them together in Arbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, where they signed a pact to form a joint council, presenting a united front for Kurdish interests in Syria.

But the KNC has repeatedly accused the PYD of failing to keep its side of the bargain, saying its People's Defence Units militia continue to set up checkpoints and impose their agenda by force.

The KNC was forged from more than a dozen smaller Syrian Kurdish parties, with Barzani's blessing, and is broadly accepted by the political mainstream, unlike the PYD, which is seen as tied to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party or PKK.

The PYD says it has nothing more than ideological affinity with the PKK, which has fought a 28-year separatist conflict in Turkey that has claimed more than 40,000 lives. But Syrian Kurds at the camp use the two acronyms interchangeably.

"There are loads of PKK people here but they don't dare say 'I am PKK'," said 24-year-old Zenar Ali Abd, who left the Syrian district of Malikiya because he faced army conscription.
